If you find a cheap recorder that records to tape, how do you later turn this into digital that can be mastered and placed on more mediums easier?

I have a Y cable/adapter that converts the 2 stereo outputs of the mixer/recorder into a single 1/8" stereo plug. I plug that into the back of the computer - the Line In. I adjust the output of the mixer so it doesn't distort the input of the computer, then basically hit Record on the computer and Play on the tape recorder.

There's better ways to do it I'm sure, but that's how I do it :)

Yup, and a USB audio adapter can help if you have a lousy (or burnt out) sound card. Griffin and Creative Labs make a few of these in the $25-50 range. These are great for transferring recorded material, but latency issues can make them a bit annoying for direct recording.
