Are there any amps out there that have a clean channel with suitable frequency response for playing acoustic, but also work well as electric guitar amps, with distortion?
Alternatively, if one were to buy a pretty nice acoustic or keyboard amp, could one run an electric guitar through overdrive or other pedals into the amp and get good sound?

I'm thinking that I'd like to buy an amp to practice electric on my own, and also one to play out with on acoustic, and would love to spend $400 on a nice on that does both rather than less for two inferior amps for their respective purposes.

depends on what you think is suitable. try some out with an A/E, thats really the only way to be sure.
you might consider getting an acoustic simulator like the Boss AC-2 for about $89 maybe less on ebay
