I know someone who wants to setup karaoke on their pc, I know what's needed for the most part (though I'm open to suggests if anyone has done this, especially on software/hardware options that are reasonable) but I'm not sure on what kind of mic would be suitable for this. I figure the mic should be similar to what would be used in a live performance for the same reasons.

What would people suggest for software, hardware etc to do this?

I know it can be done with an M-Audio Pre, but that seems overkill for karaoke (multiple inputs etc, should be possible to get something cheaper that will amp a mic and play sound). I'd look into an S-Video cable hookup for the tv if his computer has one so that the songs can display on the tv screen, and could plug his sound into surround sound etc. I'm confident that there is some karaoke software out there that's open source/free that can do the job reasonably well if not better than a lot of the easy to find but expensive software, it'd be nice to be able to get a mic and any other hardware/software for under 200.
