I do have to disagree with you on the amp that Neil Young uses though.
The new Fender Deluxe amps (Hot Rod/Blues) are 40 watt amps.
The original 50's narrow panel tweed Deluxe amps were 12 watt amps with nothing more than a volume and a tone control.
That's what Neil uses.

Ken, thanks for the info, I didn't know that. No wonder his amp sounds so overdriven.

I really love that some of these amp manufacturers are making lower powered amps today. As you said, that's where the great tones are. And today's PAs are so much lighter and compact than years past, you don't need a literal ton of gear to get great live sound anymore.

Wes,
Yeah the new PA's are very light. Technology.
Years ago playin' clubs, you had to lug around 1/2 stacks and extra bass cabs - MAN!
It must be great now.
Too bad that's all in the past for me.

Yeah - as a matter of fact.... This year, Fender has started making a reisue 57 wide panel tweed Deluxe amp.
All tube, point to point, hand wired, pine cab ~ real nice lookin'. The tweed is even lacquered (Unlike the Blues Deluxe).
Here's Fenders link. They used to have an annual catalog (Lately called Frontline), This is the first year they didn't
come out with it. You have to check everything out online.

If you're really into Neil's sound.... This is as close as you're gunna come to it.
Not a bad price either for what it is. I think somewhere around 1200 bucks.
I went to a couple of Guitar Centers when I was recently down in Chicago.... Didn't have 'em in yet.
If you try one let me know how it is. :D

An alternative to this would be a real 50's Gibson amp.
TONE!!!!
I like the tone better than 50's Fenders.
Best described as Thick Chocolate Milk Like. :D :D :D :D
50's Fender tone is called Brown Tone.
That should give you the idea. :)

Here's the Musicians Friend link to the new Fender 57 Deluxe.
A little bit more than I thought.
I still like it though. :D
