I'm in the market for my first electric, an Agile 3100 MOP.

anywho, I am looking for either an amp or Guitar Rig2.

Here are the prerequisites for my needs:
1. 99% of the time I'll be playing with headphones on due to babies and a wife.
2. I would like the ability to listen to music and jam with in itunes with headphones on at the same time.
3. Because I am new to the electric I would like to experiment with different sounds.

Guitar Rig 2 seems to give me the options I'm looking for, however...
I could see down the road wanting to jam with some buddies.

So amp wise I'm fairly new to all of this. I understand the difference between solid state and tube and the tone. I played around with a Line 6 Spyder II (I believe) at the local Guitar Center. It seemed ok.

So given the prerequisites from above let me list some bands who I will most likely be playing along with as I continue to learn.

1. Soundgarden (Badmotorfinger album)
2. P.O.D.
3. Project 86
4. Blindside
5. Foo Fighters (song-Burn away)

Again, Soundgarden is probably my favorite all-time band...

Price range? Let's say $400 max?

Thanks.

Psa. 42:8
By day the LORD commands his steadfast love,
and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.

I was reading up on this amp today and it sounds like it would have a lot of the features you are looking for:

Fender G-DEC

This amp is probably more an amp designed to help you learn guitar than play at a jam. But it has rhythm tracks you can jam to, lots of different presets for different tones ranging from Jazz, Country, to Metal, headphone jack.... Lots of features.

Might be worth looking into for your needs.

If you know something better than Rock and Roll, I'd like to hear it - Jerry Lee Lewis

You might want to consider the Korg Pandora.
It has an input for Line level devices (MP3, CD, etc), so you can jam along to your favourite music. It has some rhythm tracks if you want to be more improvisational.
There's a metronome and a chromatic tuner. It offers up to 32 seconds memory in the phrase trainer, albeit at very much less quality than a CD.
You get 50 preset effect patches and 50 programmable.
For output, you can choose whether you want to send it to headphones, an amp, a computer, or whatever.
The best part is that it's no bigger than a packet of cigarettes.
Oh, and it comes with a clip to allow you to hang it on your guitar strap.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?
