I just got my BH5H head yesterday  Its 5 watts with a 3 watt switch. It has bass, mid and treble also. I hooked it up to my old Peavy cab with a 12 in. speaker(I'm saving my nickles and dimes for the Black Heart cab). This thing is like the Epi Valve Junior but on steroids    It souds much clearer with the EQ and is louder than the epi although you might need a Tubulator or some such device if you want lots of distortion. I live out in the country with the closest neighbors about 300 feet from me but I'm pretty sure I could wake them up with this thing on full blast
It sounds good with the epi Dot but it really loves my strat. I ran it though a digital reverb on a low setting. I did some country lick ,surf music(Pipe-line), Blues (sweeeeet) and of course some classic Rock. I'll post some mp3's soon.
Sounds cool! :D I always wondered about the 3/5 watt switch. Does 2 watts make that much difference? I would rather they just cut the switch out & give me 5 watts! I like the bass/treb/mid controls though. I don't care for "pure power" heads w/ no sound shaping onboard = just my .02
The 3 watt mode is OK for low volume playing but it really comes alive cranked up and in the 5 watt mode. I agree, the EQ is very nice. With the EVH I had to use a Danelecto EQ .
I was wondering about those things Ken. I don't use my EVJ head much right now and I did buy the matching cab for that. I went and bought that Classic 30 ...... but I'm not using that either.  SansAmp Tri OD into an ancient Korg G3 processor into the power amp in of a 120 watt solid state head connected to a 4 X 12 cab. I don't know what to say? Glad you like your Blackheart though. They did get my attention. I like the idea of the EQ as well as the pentode switch.

The main reason I got this amp was to replace the EVH. Seems I toasted it a while back, probably the homemade attenuator  The BH5H has lots more headroom than the EVH. I might take the EVH to a amp tech though, I kind of miss that bluesy tone. But I think the Blackheart is much more versatile.
BTW I was checking out your web site, you and Jr have done a lot of work on the man cave. Looking good :D
Triode/pentode switches don't just change the power output, they change the response characteristics of the output stage of the amp quite a bit.

Absolutely :!: Big difference noted. The triode setting is OK for rhythm playing and trying not to wake the neighbors but the pentode setting is were this amp gets rocking :note2: :note1:
