None of you know just how tone deaf I am, but my hearing is bad enough that my wife keeps telling me to get a hearing aid. So finally after almost 6 years of always tuning with an electronic tuner, I finally gave it a try with a pitch pipe type thing and checked it with the electronic which showed I was spot on for all 6 strings. I've tried this in the past and never got it that good.
Great! :D

Here is to you as good as you are
And here is to me as bad as I am
As good as you are and as bad as I am
I'm as good as you are as bad as I am
I know the feeling. Fortunately I always play through a Vox Tonelab or Johnso J Station and both have an onboard tuner. I moan about technology but it sure is handy sometimes.

I think using an electronic tuner trains your ear. I can do a pretty good job just by ear (Note: after 30 years I should be able to) but I love my electric tuner. I wouldn't be without one, yet, it is an acomplishment to tune by ear. Congratulations!

i always double check tuning and intonation with 12th to 7th fret harmonics (habit aquired early on) so it kinda trained my ear i quess.
but i don't know how long it would take if my Tak A/E 12 string didn't have a great built in tuner.

Congrats.
Tuning by ear is still a way off for me yet but I do practice it fairly regularly.

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.
It was them that turned me to drink.
