just read her obit in the NY Times.
Ellie Greenwich was a songwriter from the 60's. the older guitarnoise denizens will remember her hit songs;
'Then He Kissed Me, Leader of the Pack, Chapel of Love (a number one hit for the Dixie Cups), River Deep-Mountain High,
Do Wah Diddy Diddy (a major hit for Manfred Mann.
the 60's girl bands were some of my favorite groups way back when; the Shangri Las, Dixie Cups, the Crystals, etc.
the notorious Phil Spector produced quite a few of the songs.
she introduced song effectsd in her songs. motorcycle revs and crashes, water and waves in the song "Walking in the Sand'.
RIP girl.
I saw that yesterday, db. Thanks for posting.
Be My Baby was another of hers and one of my faves.

Sad day. I've got quite a few old black vinyl 45's where the writing team is credited as Spector-Greenwich-Barry.
RIP Ellie - you made a pretty major contribution to the songwriting world, and who could ask for a better epitaph than that?

A voice that was so heavenly ..
May she now be with the angels

Here is to you as good as you are
And here is to me as bad as I am
As good as you are and as bad as I am
I'm as good as you are as bad as I am
And her music will live on for a long time. At least as long as this generation will live, and probably much longer.
Thanks Ellie for the music.
Keep writing new tunes for the musicians playing "the great gig in the sky".
