Taking my computer into the shop today to see if anything is recoverable. I hope so, but it looks like a major disk crash and I'm not expecting much.

Got my files back!

Tech was able to spin up the dead disk and grab and image to put on a new drive.

Whew!

By the way, what's a good disk imaging software?

And...the jam is on!!

I use "second copy" for backing up all the directories I care about to a USB drive. Does not really create an disk image, but I figure I can always get all the software installed back.

I use Powerquest Drive Image which is now Norton Ghost. Same software though. Symantec just swallowed Powerquest. Whether that's good or bad.....well I for one think it's bad but, just get the software now before they totally bloat and destroy it's usefulness. I would check Ebay and Craigslist.
