After this month, we are losing our regular soundman so he can spend more time with his new baby girl. We have a couple of part-timers who have filled in, but we are needing someone available on a more regular basis.

1. Where did you find your sound tech?
2. Where is a good place to look/advertise/etc for same?

Thanks!

Why not ask the FOH guy at the local clubs or wherever you play. They'd probably know the better engineers from the bad ones. You could try the local recording "school" (a term used very loosely) but it could prove to be very painful unless you happen to stumble upon one of the few exceptionally talented students.

You'd likely end up spending more time, training a student than playing. The plus side might be that he would have your set list as a template rather than his own preconcieved ideas. The downside being that he might not have the expereince to know exactly what to do if something goes wrong. Feedback et al.

I think your best bet is to audition people just like you would any other band member. Post an ad. Audition. Sift through the crap to find your guy.

The trick is to find one that won't start a bar tab and drink up the money you're going to make playing the gig.
