Was just reading the post on worst covers and it got me thinking of the best covers i've heard.

For me it has to be Guns And Roses- Knocking On Heavens Door

Anyone Else?

While I love Al Green's original, the Talking Heads brought a whole new dimension to Take Me to the River.

Where would Billy Bass have been without that?

Took me a moment. I usually associate Don't Worry, Be Happy with da fish-boy.

Well, I think almost everyone prefers Hendrix's covers of both All Along the Watchtower and Hey Joy better than the originals.

If you know something better than Rock and Roll, I'd like to hear it - Jerry Lee Lewis

Hendrix's "Watchtower" of course
Aerosmith did a good version of The Beatles' "I'm Down" on the Permanent Vacation album
Pearl Jam does a great version of The Who's "Love Reign O'er Me"
Black Crowes version of Otis Redding's "Hard to Handle"
Cake "I Will Survive"

yeah, maybe almost - both Jimi's cover and Bobby Z's original Watchtower work for me... I'd have to flip a coin to decide.

Satisfaction by Devo is my all-time favorite cover.

BTW, If you like cover tunes, you should listen to the Coverville podcast. Brian Ibbott, the host, generally publishes three shows a week and many shows have themes (current is ukele based; a recent show covered Pink Floyd; etc...).

SRVs version of Little Wing as found on "The Sky is Cryin" album.

Hey Jim, Good catch on "I'm Down" love that one too.
Speaking of them, Gilby Clarke did a cover of Lord of the Thighs on an Aerosmith tribute album. I've always like that.

The Byrds - Mr Tambourine Man
Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower
Manfred Mann - If You Gotta Go, Go Now
Manfred Mann's Earth Band - You Angel You
Bryan Ferry - A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall
George Harrison - If Not For You

(Anyone notice a pattern emerging yet........?)

Although my all-time favourite cover song has to be Joe Cocker's version of "I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends."

:D :D :D

Well, lets see
Cheap Trick's cover of "Ain't that a shame"
Social Distortion's cover of "Ring of Fire"
Toots and the Maytalls turning John Denver's "Country Roads" into a reggae masterpiece
Rolling Stones cover of "Under the Boardwalk"
Johhny Winter's cover of "Highway 61"
Johnny Cash's version of "Personal Jesus"

Immature? Of course I'm immature Einstein, I'm 50 and in a Rock and ROll band.
