I think the concept of the blues is pretty simple. Let your emotions dictate your playing. But one finding the ability to let that happen, is much more complicated.

Well put. I think that the fundamentals of what the blues guys were doing in the early 1900's (having pure emotion in their playing, but at the same time keeping it relatively simple and from the heart), have been transferred to what zeppelin and sabbath was doing in the 70's, what metallica did in the 80's and 90's (even though their music is generally complex on guitar, in my opinion, it's got more emotion and blues influence then alot of other hard rock/ metal bands) and what a very select few of artists do nowadays.
