Hey, at least Chuck never got sued for sounding like himself! Unlike this poor guy:

Run Through the Jungle:

Old Man Down the Road:

Fogerty lost control of the CCR catalogue and:
'...Former CCR executive Saul Zaentz claimed that the song "The Old Man Down the Road," which Fogerty released as a solo artist, was too similar to (Run through the Jungle), and even took him to court. It was perhaps the first time an artist was sued for plagiarizing himself. Fogerty won that case...'

'Hotel California' and 'We Used to Know' by Jethro Tull have some striking resemblance...

There's a recently popular country song about a woman smashing and carving up her lover's truck for revenge while he's inside a club being unfaithful to her. Dunno the name or performer. But when I hear it playing at low volume on a radio, what I hear in the background music is Carol of the Bells.

"A cheerful heart is good medicine."

I remember years ago, Alice Cooper (Elected) was being accused of ripping off Jimi Hendrix (Dolly Dager). Intros are very similar. This radio station in Columbia, SC played an old Chicago blues song, rough recording, quite obscure. The brass instruments were playing the intro, same as Dolly Dager and Elected.

The biggest suprise to me was ... the intro to Fripp and Eno's "Evening Star" (performed on electric guitar and tape/signal loops) is practically identical to Nat King Cole's "The Very Thought of You" (performed by a string orchestra).

The best story is the similarity between the intro of "Stairway to Heaven" and Spirit's "Taurus" from their first lp (1967). Led Zeppelin was the back up band for Spirit for a bit during their first tour of the US. When Randy California (Spirit guitarist) was asked about the similarity, he commented that it was similar, but if Page (did it on purpose), he liked what Page did with it. That to me is a great attitude on one's music!
