Hello Everyone,

I've got a Fame GTA-15 full tube amp that sounds very nice but also very loud (at least that's what my neighbors keep telling me ). That means that I can never enjoy the full overdrive I could get at higher volumes.

Finally I got my family into buying me some pedals for Xmas. The deal is this: I'll be getting 2 new pedals as a gift.

Since I don't have any pedals and nowhere to test them with my set, I'm not sure what kind of effects I need to play the songs I like (brands and models are all different beasts that I'll leave for a second post).

Just to make things clear, I enjoy (and would like to play) songs from The Who, Rolling Stones, Beatles and Elvis, but also eventually some rock songs from the late '80s and '90s (e.g. Guns and Roses).

I heard that if I get a boost, I'll be able to enjoy my amp's overdrive without having to put it too loud. Is that true? If so, should I get another overdrive pedal?

Anyway, what two or three effects do you recommend for playing the songs from the bands I like (specially the classic rock bands cited above) and that will take advantage of my tubes?

Thanks a lot for any input!

Hey, thanks for the answer!

Is tunning the EQ too hard?

Also, is the compression the same thing as sustain?

Thanks!

Hello Everyone,

What about that boost thing? Is it true that if I plug in a boost pedal, I'll get my own amp's overdrive, without having to go for a higher volume?

Thanks!

I use my Tube Screamer as a boost pedal. It isn't quite the same as turning the thing up loud but it works for me.

Hello Everyone.

I got a great offer for a set with an Overdrive, a Chorus and a Delay, and I enjoyed the sound of it, so I'm going to buy this week or the next and I'll let you all know how it goes!

Thanks for the help (specially for pointing out the Overdrive and Delay... I'll try to get the Equalizer in a few months).

Cheers!

I second the vote for EQ. You can get a lot of great tones from it. Setting it is not difficult. Just a matter of trying different things out. My first three pedals were a Danelectro EQ, a Behringer Overdrive and a Behringer Chorus.

Thanks for all the answers. I got a Chorus, an Overdrive and a Delay yesterday, and it's just the sound I was looking for.

But since my birthday is comming, I'll see if someone wants to give me an EQ too.

Thanks again! This forum is always very helpfull for begginers like me.
