Is an american jazz bass worth the extra money?

hey i was recently looking at jazz basses and looking at the huge price difference between the american and say mexican or something like that. and really what is the big difference? please tell me!

i play a fender telecaster and i need to know about effects!

a small part of the difference is materials, particularly in the electronics.

a large part of the difference is in the labor.

In my mind, the difference between American and MIM is not worth the money. Buy the MIM, change out the electronics, have a luthier you trust redo your frets, and you've still spent less than the American.

the price difference between MIM and MIA strats is not justified to me, but a friend of mine has a Jazz Bass MIA deluxe and he swears by it.
