I don't know I was looking at her music and her time line and she has spawned decades. It was cool to see her put out a new disc, Shine, cause she was retired. I know she put out the disc cause she wanted to make music in response to what is happening in the world. It is refreshing to hear her voice and I am glad that i picked up her disc at my umg internship. If you want to learn more about her stuff check her site. Thanks

I'm a HUGE Joni fan and have been for several decades now! I think every guitar player needs to check out her unusual alternate tunings. Here are a few links to those tunings and to one Wikipedia article about her and her music.

Me too. I was wondering how that one was, just saw it this weekend. I'll probably get it. It will go along with the other 15 JM cd's I got. ("Taming the Tiger" unbelievable!)

Spam! From the charmers at UMG? Say it ain't so...
Their publishing wing evidently did this recently:
From imdb:
'In the latest online copyright brouhaha, the British tech-news website The Inquirer reported Tuesday (Oct 30) that YouTube has sent a letter to a woman who posted a 29-second video of her baby in which the child bopped to the music of Prince's "Let's Go Crazy." The woman, Stephanie Lenz, said that she was told that Universal Music Publishing Group had demanded the video be removed. "It was Universal Music Publishing group, and I was afraid that they might come after me," she told the Inquirer. She eventually hired an attorney who was able to persuade YouTube to restore the video. But Universal has fired back with legal action of its own.'

I thought about spam the first time I read it, too, but then I thought that, even if it was intended as spam, there's no reason it couldn't be turned into a valuable discussion about this remarkable woman and her music. I also thought that, since she hasn't put out anything new in forever, a lot of her fans might not be aware of the one that came out last month and that this would be a good way to let all the other "old farts" who are Joni fans know about it.

That's why it's still here.

Just some Trivia about Joni, the Led Zep Song Going to California makes reference to Joni and Plant's infatuation with her in the line "To find a queen without a king, they say she plays guitar and cries and sings". Page even used a double Drop D tuning, a Mitchell favorite.

Immature? Of course I'm immature Einstein, I'm 50 and in a Rock and ROll band.

I was just making a comment, didn't expect anyone to take any action or delete it since it really wasn't offensive in any way.

I haven't listened to any Joni Mitchell in years maybe I'll have to check it out.

I'm taking a music course in university and my teacher is absolutely crazy about her music. She was the topic of his PhD

A friend of my who is a die hard Joni Mitchell fan got the cd and was very disappointed. Haven't heard it myself yet.

Falling in love is like learning to play the guitar; first you learn to follow the rules, then you learn to play with your heart.

I haven't heard it yet, either, but I really want to!! I can't imagine being disappointed in Joni, but I suppose all things are possible! I'm definitely going to buy it!

I've listened to it a few times and don't like it as much as some of her earlier tracks like Blue or California or All I Really Want To Do (I bloody LOVE those tunes :P ), but I really like the, uh, tone/feel/vibe of the album a lot, and love that she's putting new music out.

Am I the only one who thinks the tone of her voice has improved a lot with age? Its purely subjective, but I really can't stand Joan Baez's voice, it genuinely goes through me like nails on a chalkboard, and I feel kinda the same with some earl Joni songs (not a lot, but some), like the one she performs on The Band's The Last Waltz. I reconise both of them have immense talent and sing much better than I could ever hope to do, but it just doesn't click with me. Even Joni's song Clouds - I have the original and like it, but I love a later string-orchestrated version she did (its used on the film Love Actually which is how I discovered her, lol).

I feel this way about a lot of young singers though, more so with women - it just seems that as their voices change with age (or enough Marlboro Lights and Brandies, lol) they sound more like they have actually lived the stories they sing about.

Anyways, back to Joni's new album - I'm thinking this one might be a grower/slow burner for people, but definitely worth checking out.

Got it yesterday. I'm not disappointed. But I am highly biased. There are alot worse things to spend your money on.
