Soooo..........

Went in the music shop yesterday, armed with a full wallet.....tried a couple of Telecasters, wasn't too keen - tried a Les Paul, really horrible action....tried an SG, diddn't like the balance....there was another bloke next to me trying out a strat, I mentioned to him my squier strat sounded just as good....so the assistant said to me, "There's a Squier Tele you might want to try...."

So I did..it had a lower, smoother action than the two Fender Tele's I tried...OK, it's easy enough to lower the action, but it just felt so good in my hands...maybe it's because I'm used to the Squier Strat?

Anyway, I bought the Squier Tele...and saved about £300....so I treated myself to a Roland Cube amp, lots of spare strings, acouple of songbooks,
a harmonica, a strap, a new tuner.....

Now all I need is a 12-string......so, is it just me or does anyone else prefer Squier to Fender?

:D :D :D

Agood Fender will outclass a Squier. But yeah, a good Squier is a great guitar and many fenders just ain't what a fender should be. Besides, Squier really upgraded their QA, the 2004 kicks butt.

Have fun, the cube is great amp as well. :)

It may just be due to the fact that I've got huge clumsy hands....but the Squier guitars just seem to fit better....

And thanks Arjen.....already having a lot of fun with this set-up!!!!!

I've never tried comparing the two, but I did buy a Squire mini strat for my grandson for his birthday that I almost kept for myself (if it were for anybody but him, I would have)

The Squiers that I've tried have a far better finish to the neck than even US Strats - shame that the rest of it is "poor" quality - second rate woods and electronics.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.

I planned on getting a used squier start soon, and refinishing it, and getting an after market pre-wired pickguard. They really do have some gems amongst their guitar line.

Hey Vic,

Sorry mate, I don't know anything about electrics. Except that they need an amp and you have to plug them in. But my first guitar was a squire accoustic, and I love it. A friend of mine gave me an Epiphone, and it plays real well, but I still go back to that squire quite often. I've seen folks talk bad about them, but for me, if it's comfortable, and it sounds good to me, my requirements are met. And if I can get it for substantially less than a "classier" guitar, my requirements are exceeded. My biggest problem right now is that I went to re-string it last week, and broke the very first string I tried to put on. (the low E) Sometimes it sucks being a rookie. Anyways, congrats.

I've got 2 squier teles, a custom 2 in vintage blonde that I tune to open G and a black custom that I keep in open D for slide. Love them both, also has an affinity series strat that sounds just as good as my brother in laws 50th anniversary edition strat (this really chaps his bottom)
The only problem I find with them is inconsistency, you can pick up 2 identical models and they will sound completely different. Ir definatley does pay though to shop a big music store where you can try several, cause when you find a good one it's a keeper.

Immature? Of course I'm immature Einstein, I'm 50 and in a Rock and ROll band.

I find that after 6 weeks or so with my new squier standard that i like it even more now :D :D I got it for open tuning and slide, but i find i use it more in standard tuning. As long as you pick a good one and get it set up right, they can be a great axe. ---the dog
