when i was a freshman in college i had a roommate who watched BET ALL FREAKIN DAY! i heard alot of rap that year. alot of it was crap. for example, the Ying Yang Twins with a song called EYE-YI-YI or some sort of spelling. pure crap. i saw hundreds of music videos that year. i would say 95% of them featured scantily clad women, expensive cars, lots of gold, more women, more cars, more gold, and big houses. and some more women. i came to the conclusion that most rap videos were exactly the same, just with different rappers. some rap is pretty decent, i think kanye west has some good ideas. Damien Marley makes some good music, and he's kinda a rapper (but you can find his cds in the raggae section).
rap does require tremendous command of words to make them rhyme and such. it's just the image that rap presents is just poor and sometimes just plain wrong and bad. and most time the words being used are just fluff (i.e. the cars and girls and gold). good rap has a good beat and the words actually mean something...and there is no mention of the ladies or any of the other above-mentioned components of commercial rap.
that's my take
i also despise rap, btw, so im with Nils
and i need to go to bed
so goodnight
I wish Yoko would put out a rap cd.

The original point of the thread was to show the US army's use for rap as a weapon of torture. This thread seems to have confirmed that it CAN be used as such - even via the Internet!
I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

I hadn't seen this thread since the beginning. This got way funny.
I do have a question since I don't see it on THIS page.
Nils, how do you feel about rap? :D
