Man, that's a long list to choose from. My initial reaction is SRV's Little Wing.

I shall probably get "deaded" for this but my current favourite is:

"Little Wing" - by the Corrs (The sexiest band in the world, IMHO) from their Unplugged album

I think also that Jim Corr is a good guitarist and what a lucky guy, having sisters as gorgeous and talented as them!

I play their unplugged album very often.

Can you wear out a CD????

The guitar is all right John but you'll never make a living out of it! (John Lennon's Aunt Mimi)

Sort of. If there is a lot of wear on the top coating of the CD (i.e. the mirrir surface), it will cease to read correctly.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.

I think Hendrix's cover of All Along The Watchtower has to go down as the best ever.

Rolf Harris's cover of Stairway To Heaven deserves an honourable mention, though.

Best,

I also love Jimi's version of "All Along The Watchtower" - but it's been edged out by Joe Cocker's version of "I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends" - funny, that song's been covered a few times, usually (Wet Wet Wet and Billy Bragg, for instance) in a similar style to the Beatles - Joe took the song, turned it on its head, did it completely differently and made (for me, anyway!) the definitive version....

I have absolutely no idea what my favorite is -- too many to count --but I'd argue that in addition to Hendrix's cover of "All Along the Watchtower" that among the greatest and most
historically significant covers are:

Elvis's cover of "That's All Right Mama";
the Beatles cover of "Twist and Shout";
and the Stones' cover of "Not Fade Away" and "It's All Over Now".

Well we all shine on--like the moon and the stars and the sun.

The Clash's covers of "Pressure Drop" (an old reggae tune) and "I Fought the Law"
Cake's cover of "Mahna Mahna" (yes, as originally done by the Muppets)
William Shatner's cover of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" (uhm ... :shock: )

I like "different" covers. Right now I'm listening to Leo Kottke & Mike Gordon's cover of "Sweet Emotion". Acoustic, sort of an "islands" feel.

And I still love "Summer Breeze" as done my Type-O Negative (yes, one of my fav bands from back in my younger days) in the mid '90s.

Ooo, ooo, ooo, just thought: it's not strictly a cover but I think it counts for this purpose as it's a complete turning around - Clapton's acoustic version of Layla.
