I'm currently in a 3-piece rockabilly band. After 30 years of background vocals and the occasional lead, I have fallen into the role of lead vocalist
Because of the type of music, my vocal style is on the gritty side. How do singers like Joan Jett or Alice Cooper perform their trademark snarls night after night? Since the larynx is a muscle, is it simply a matter of working it out?
We're several weeks away from being ready to gig, but after practices, my voice feels like a flaccid balloon.
