Do you ever learn a song wrong and then just can't get the wrong version out of your head? It's not like playing guitar or another instrument where you can retrain the muscle memory. Singing the right notes with the right timing and lyrics is a lot harder to learn once you've learned it the wrong way or learned a different version.
What do you do to get the garbage out of your head and be able to sing what you're supposed to sing without having to constantly think about it?

It's just like learning a song for the first time. Learn it the "proper" way slowly at first, and eventually your muscle memory will adapt as you get faster at it. :)
Tone is subjective.
