Well if it's mahogany, and bear in mind this is only a guess, it's a type of wood so my guess is from a tree. Very possibly a mahogany tree.

As for the rainforests - trees ARE a renewable resource. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

It was just a simple question...I only wanted to say that one should take a closer look at some things...

By the way, Mahogany is becoming increasingly rare, and is already extinct in parts of its original range...

Very interesting:

This is my point:

Fair point, Mr Mojo. Although I like alder or maple necks and agathis bodies myself.

The point I was trying to make is that 99.99999999% of all guitarists don't care where the wood their guitars are made of comes from and probably care even less about being educated. All they'll care about is whether the guitar looks good, feels good and sounds good. Sad in a way, but true.

Some days ago I wrote some emails to National Guitars and Amistar asking them about the mahogany. No response until now...

Well, you can say: "The little piece of mahogany in my guitar won't make the rainforest become extinct." (I hope the grammar is right...;-))
But how many people buy these guitars? A few thousand?

Honduran mahogany is no longer available. however, mahogany, and it comes in many grades from several countrys, is still available.
resonators typically have laminated woods in it. my National resonater, in walnut, has a laminated top and I believe back. the sides are solid.

as for the MF 150 dollar reso...run. run away very fast.

Don't get me wrong folks!

I love to play guitar or talk about them or talk about playing them. I even love to buy guitars when I can spend the money.( Certainly not at the moment.. :? ) But be honest...Would you buy furnitures made from mahogany? But guitar mahogany necks are o.k....?

The hemp-guitar is a good idea... I will keep that in mind. :D

Please take a look at this:

What's being sold as "mahogany" today has nothing to do with the rare endangered stuff.

As for Johnson resos, I'm sure you can't get a better deal anywhere than by E-mailing or phoning John Watts at Coast to Coast Music and tell him I sent you. They (Johnson) have a factory policy limiting the minimum advertised price, but he'll beat it. His website is: http://coast2coastmusic.com/ That's a great place to buy harps, too.

to be honest I'm not the least bit concerned one way or the other.
nor will i allow myself to feel guilty about it.
99.9% of all life that has existed on earth is already extinct and the world keeps right on spinning thru space. I doubt very seriously whether one species or another vanishing will make any difference...

when i asked "what is your point?" i meant, what do you suggest we do about it?

Many guitar manufacturers are already using composite materials and i hope that they gain popularity based on a superior tone rather than the renewable aspect.
hopefully it will make my next all solid exotic wood guitar more affordable
