Normally I attempt to read every lyric, listen to every recording and read all the comments. I apologize that the chores this week have kept me from my passion. I didn't think I would write anything this week but I found myself sleepless. It's a quick write so please bear with me.
She Talks To Passing Trains
She talks to passing trains
As they roll through her town
But no one ever hears
And the trains do not slow down
She sees the trains go by
Always heading far away
She hopes the engineer
Will stop the train and say
(chorus)
Come with me
Come down the tracks
Come with me
And never come back
She lies awake at night
And thinks of the containers
That went by that day
And what they had inside
She counts them in her head
Cars linked like streams of tears.
In loud parade
Percussing through the years
(chorus)
She talks to passing trains
Like her mother did before
Afraid to buy a ticket
Mother never got aboard
She talks to passing trains
But no one ever hears
There will never be an answer
Till she lets go of her fears
(chorus)
Hi John,
Good start :D I like the "tears" line and and the verse about the mother. In all, it leans a bit on the vague side, but that's not a bad thing.
It reminds me of Elizabeth Cotten's "Freight Train" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43-UUeCa6Jw
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for reading and commenting. Andrew Calhoun wrote a song " Folksingers Are Boring"
One verse reads
First they sing a song about a train
Then they sing a song about a train
Then another song about a train
Folksingers are boring.
First they sing a song about a train
Then they sing a song about a train
Then another song about a train
Folksingers are boring
 ...I bet Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends like folk music

I especially like the rhythm of the chorus words - train rhythm. Excellent

Thanks Hagrider. Life is getting busy right now.
