Unlike the few assignments, which have been misfire after misfire, this one came out much more complete, far more quickly. Very much see this as a country blues, or maybe blues/rock sort of number. Let me know what you think.
From the Saloon to the Moon
Went to down to the saloon
Gonna drink my way
Gonna drink my way to the moon
Gonna drink so much scotch!
Get there in an afternoon
Been at the saloon
Drinkin my way
Drinkin my way to the moon
Been drinkin so much scotch!
I should be gettin there soon
Stuck in this saloon
Drinkin my way
Drinkin away from the moon
I've drunk so much scotch!
Folk can hear me croon
Been drinkin' the afternoon
All I see is stars
Been drinkin' the afternoon
All I see is stars
Nowhere near the moon
I haven't got to far
i like this song and repetition is good but i'm not sure if there's too much repetition....
Hi DR
Definitely get the country blues feel to this, but you might also get a nice swing jazz / blues vibe from it as well. Mostly because I'm having a hard time thinking "Scotch" and "country" at the same time
The only sticky part's the middle:
Stuck in this saloon
Drinkin my way
Drinkin away from the moon
I've drunk so much scotch!
Folk can hear me croon
I love the "croon" part - it's what got me thinking a bit of a jazz / blues kick in the first place - but I'm not sure the line works in this context. Maybe focus on a different aspect, such as:
Stuck in this saloon
Singing "Fly Me To The Moon"
Yeah it's me and Frank Sinatra
Singing "Fly Me To The Moon"
I've drunk so much scotch
But me and Frankie sure can croon
Yeah, ridiculous, I know
Looking forward to more.
Peace
Hi DR,
George Thorogood was going around in my head reading this, I can just imagine him singing it. Davids comment on the "croon" line is valid to my mind. I also was thinking that some sort of bridge in there to relieve the repetition might be nice. You could always turn David's "Frank Sinatra" lines into that bridge. Good stuff.
cheers
Paul
I don't think there's much wrong with this - I was thinking George Thorogood blues/rock, too. Although I like David's suggestion - especially as a bridge - I like the original, too....let's face it, everyone thinks they can sing like Sinatra when they've had a few!
:D :D :D
