I thought it might be a good idea to keep track of where we are at with the song chain.

Line 1 - Vic - handed on to Ken
Line 2 - Ken - handed on to Anne
Line 3 - Anne - handed on to John
Line 4 - John - handed on to Trevor

Line 5 - Trevor - handed on to Paul
Line 6 - Paul - handed on to Kathy
Line 7 - Kathy - handed on to Nick

Good idea so now it don't get passed to someone who already has been involved

 :note1:

Here is to you as good as you are
And here is to me as bad as I am
As good as you are and as bad as I am
I'm as good as you are as bad as I am

Once again, one of CitiZenNoir's ideas bearing fruit.....

OK, so who else is going to get in on this? It'd be nice to get most of the regular SSG contributors involved....Katreich, DHodge, KenRogers2, Pearlthekat, Chefie....maybe people like crkt246 and jwmartin and ccourtney and slipperman and Chris C? And what about some of the regulars from the other songwriting forum? Ken suggested Chris Lever, there may be others who'd like a crack at submitting a line?

Oh, I see it's with Kath now.....maybe she'll update the thread and let us know who's got it next?

:D :D :D

I've handed it off to Nick.

Hi,

I've been out in the wilds of Utah for the last two months and rarely near a computer link . . . . . . but I'm back and game if some one will clue me in.

Hi Neil, good to see you...

This was just an idea of Ken's (CitiZenNoir) - sort of like a chain letter, but just add a line to the song when it reaches you, then pass it on to someone else. You in? We may get a good song out of this, but it'll be interesting to see where it ends up!

And we've still got to decide who's doing the music......!

:D :D :D

(Subtle hint to Nick the ball hogger)
Hey!
Someone toss the ball to me!
I can run! I can run!
Oh please, may I play?
This sounds like so much fun.

Where is this song posted?
Sorry, I've been out of touch, out of town, as well as (my usual) out of my mind.

It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.

Hey :D

Vic; I just planted a seed.... You very caringly watered it and gave it the light of day :)
Looks like everyone is having fun with it 8)

If everyone likes it enough, I'm sure we could do more.
There's probably going to be some things to be learned from how this one goes,
and subsequent improvements to be made.

Of course, all participants should feel free to offer any suggestions for an improved 'system'.

Can't wait to see the lyrics!

I'm back from the Riverside Jam/side trip to Quebec City, so count me in. Guess we're waiting to see who Nick hands off to...

And another "welcome back" to you, Neil. Hope you had pleasant travels.

Peace

As far as a stylistic evolution goes,
I have the thought of a possible future chain song to be written one line at a time,
just like it is now, with the exception that the last word be left out of the line.

That is: That someone would write an incomplete line and send it to another, who would finish the line,
and add another incomplete line.

Sort of like a chain song/mad lib

I also have the idea for a chain song take on a 'cut-up' method.

That is that there would be a person who collects a random line from the participants who know nothing about
the other lines, or even what the subject of the song is

Those lines would probably have to be edited a little bit to fit together.... though, true cut-up songs are also.

Just thought I'd share those ideas with those who are interested :)

Write On!

You do realise, Ken, we'll have to open a whole new forum the way you're going?

You and I are at a distinct disadvantage here - we've only seen the first two lines, the ones we shuttled back and forth. I'm dying to see how this works out!

And the great thing is - this whole idea's repeatable. We can do it all over again, anytime!

remeber back in week 23, Pearlthekat had an idea for a song - but no lyrics? And several people chipped in with a verse...I still think that's a good song. OK, I'm biased - I tidied it all up, and put music to it! and it could have been even better, if maybe we'd got more people involved - and someone had added bass, someone else added lead, etc etc....

Which begs the question - who's going to put the music to this particular collaboration? Now that person may have to alter a couple of lines, you know, just to fit the meter?

Volunteers - put names down now!

And isn't it nice to see that people from different parts of the world, from different backgrounds, with totally disparate lives, can all work together on a song? Sigh - if only the rest of the world worked that way, we'd have invented democracy!

:D :D :D

Vic - Yeah.... the music.
David had the idea to do the music first, and then write the lyrics in to that.
I was thinking that we could have a joint SSG/SCW collab, where they start it out.
[Someone comes up with bass part, someone a verse chord structure, someone a chorus, someone a drum track, etc....]
(David's idea)
then send that on to one of us to start the lyric process.

After that is all together, add the flourishes, like: The solo and fills.

As far as editing the lines.... You're probably right.
And I have no problem with that.

I only stressed no changing of others lines because it would be too easy to change someones line to conform more to your own style, to easily.... 'propagate' your own line.
Ya know?

That thought occured to me as I came up with the line I used.... The original version didn't flow quite as well with your first line, so I had to add a word, I believe....?

So, the no-edit rule was so that we had to morph our lyrics to fit instead of the other way 'round :)

Say, I always thought that a group of people working together for one common goal, each contributing equally, was actually something called: socialism
I could be wrong
