SSG Week 26 - Everybody Lies - with MP3

Hi all,

Been gone for a few weeks on vacation so this is a rushed effort. A little sloppy on fingerpicking and needs some work on phrasing . . . . . still, appreciate any suggestions.

EVERYBODY LIES

why do we ask questions
does anybody care
why do we need answers
is there any comfort there
who should we believe in
to tell us the truth
is it something we can handle
is it any use

cause everybody lies
they tell us what we want to hear

prophets predict
priests know their fate
scientists don't understand
scholars think it's too late
politicians couldn't care less
to them it's just a game
it doesn't matter what we do

I've walked down narrow streets
ancient paths of cobblestone
where countless have walked before me
yet I felt so all alone
and they all made their mark
some in ways we'll never know
they've gone in many directions
in places we can't go
the ghosts of children play evil games
shadows of grown men, they cry in their shame
riddles of the past that they thought solved
vanish with the rain their answers dissolved

when the consequences
are more than we can bear
we accept misrepresentations,
deceit, and call it fair
when quid pro quo is what you want
quid pro quo is what you get
the less we understand
the less we need to forget
