Ok..this is pretty hokey, but I'm trying to jump back into this after a long time away.

Up Yonder

I know when I go up Yonder, I'm gonna find my happy home
Yeah when I get up Yonder, that's where I'll find my happy home
But Lord today ain't got nothin', I'm lost and on my own

The Devil, he got whiskey, he got smokes and he got wine
I said that Devil's somethin' tricky, with his whiskey, smokes and wine
And if you listen to that old Devil, he's gonna take you and rob you blind

(break)

Listen to what I'm sayin, cause I've known the Devil and I've known sin
I know what I been sayin, the Devil he taught me about sin
Now I'm down to my last dollar, but I've found the Lord and let him in

(break)

I know when I go up Yonder, I'm gonna find my happy home
Yeah when I get up Yonder, that's where I'll find my happy home
But Lord today ain't got nothin', I'm lost and on my own

Hokey? Blues? Perish the thought.

Hokey or not, I found my toes tapping to this and thinking about how it might get a little bit of a gospel feel to it. Blues and gospel aren't all that far apart...

Only tricky part was the third line in the first (and last) verse. Wasn't sure if it were the Lord or the singer who "...got nothin'...", so I thought you might want to spell it out for idiots such as myself:
But Lord today I ain't got nothin', and I'm lost and on my own

But that's so minor it's not worth talking about...

Welcome back, Jerboa, and looking forward to more from you.

Peace

I think this is classic blues, nothing hokey about it at all. I can hear the harmonica......

Thanks for the positive words guys. I *was* going for more of a gospel feel. Which is why I said hokey.

dhodge..good catch. That is the way I sang it, but accidentally left the "I" out when I typed it up. That line really should have been as you have it.

Good Job

I've attempted Gospel Blues a couple of time myself and never
came up with anything this good.
