Note to self: I must stop writing songs when I'm supposed to be working.

Follow up note to self: Nah, why should I?

Title: Sleep

[Verse 1]
The morning's first coffee is
hot, black and strong, half-
spilled on the floor as the
shakes take a hold. No
lights in the kitchen, it's
too light outside, last
night's Chinese Takeaway
slimy and cold.

[Chorus]
Sleep off the booze and the
pills and the nameless
lovers whose faces you'll
never see.
Live on the dreams of
knights in bright armour, and
wake up to
reality.

[Verse 2]
Don't ask no questions of the
bathroom mirror, it'll
tell you the truth that you
don't want to hear. You
put on your makeup to
hide the disasters you've
brought to your life for the
next hundred years.

[Chorus]
[Bridge]
The needle's cold pinprick
takes away pain, and
brings a few hours feeling
human again. Can
forests of thorns that you've
built up around you like
Castle Walls, hide
beauty within

[Instrumental]

[Verse 3]
Sit for a while and
wipe away tears over
memories and wonders of
what might have been. Then
pick up your cup and
hide in the numbness that
kisses your lips from the
bottle of gin.

[Chorus]
[Chorus]
End

Okay, now that I'm convinced that I'll spend the rest of my life wishing I could have written this second verse...

What sort of music do you have in mind for this, Alan? Would love to hear it.

Peace

At the moment:

I think it's going to be fairly slow, opening gently and building up to a crescendo at the bridge. The instrumental break hasn't taken shape yet, but there needs to be a freefall-type feeling at the end of the break before the songs lands on the final verse.

Cheers,

A :-)

absolutely fabulous Alan.... ;)
If I was really picky, I would change one word in V1

...... No
lights in the kitchen, it's
too bright outside, ....

But that's just being picky on a fantastic song, so just ignore that remark.
