I've not done much in here for ages. Time to remedy that. This needs to rock along like Chuck Berry's "Memphis Tennessee" and I keep hearing bits of it with the opening bassline from The Beatles "Come Together"

Title: Curtains

Faithless congregation make their
Sunday observation with
hypocrisy and piety in
equal denomination

[Chorus]
Hide behind the curtains, fuel the
gossip, be more certain, what the
rumour mill is spreading is the
truth in twisted versions.

Salamander's rock is warm
the sunlight crisp since golden dawn
the perfect setting, time and place, for
cold hard shocks as scandal's born

[Chorus]

Township elders wring their hands
and bang the tables, making plans.
Keep it from the papers, swear to
secrecy, every man.

[Chorus]

Fuelled by its own momentum
it must be true, there's no question.
Save our good folks from their evil,
send the lynch mob out to get them

[Chorus]

Attuned to death from sunlit skies
the Salamander catches flies
but underneath his rock the proof
the innocents told all the lies

[Chorus]

And there will probably be an instrumental break in there somewhere. Do I get extra credits for using Salamander twice?

Sure, 1000 points to you Alan.

I liked it, especially the internal rhyme.

One verse seems odd meter wise:

Township elders wring their hands
and bang the tables, making plans.
Keep it from the papers, swear to
secrecy, every man.

I wanted to highlight the rhymes. Meter wise, it's in eighth notes apart from "plans," "secrecy" (8th, 8th, quarter) and "man" (quarter)

Township elders wring their hands and
bang the tables, making plans.
Keep it from the papers, swear to
secrecy, ev'ry man.

A :-)
