A friend of mine used to do counciling for people readjusting to society after coming out of institutions and the like... one of these people was a delusional schizophrenic... he lived with the firm beleif that Jesus spoke to him through his television set. Apparently he was quite a character.. though I never got the chance to meet him. Anyway...my song for this week came out of this real-life character.. and what a strange moment of clarity he must have had one day.

"Patterns In Static"

Today I woke up and everything was different
Half-whispered words still ringing in my ears
The little things seem so much more important
My eyes are open and the picture is crystal clear

(chorus)
I've seen the light
I've seen the signs
And I feel like I'm alive for the very first time
Now I believe
For he speaks to me
I found the patterns in the static on my TV screen

Today I woke up and everything was different
I'm all alone with my epiphany
Nobody calls and no one comes to visit
But that's ok this is just between Jesus and me

(bridge)
And I know they'll never listen
So I'll have to keep this to myself
Its far beyond their comprehension
Meant for me and no one else

(chorus)

I found the patterns in the static on my TV screen

Hey Marv,

This is quite different. I love the title. It speaks volumes, and I think your story would have come across crystal clear (as it were) even without the introductory paragraph. I sort of envision this with the verses being softly spoken, and the chorus, with only minor revisions to the meter, being sung to the tune of Hank Williams' "I saw the light"

The only thing I think I might work on, were this my piece, is the last line of the bridge. In my experience, people whose delusions have progressed to this degree of grandiosity are beyond the point where they'll recognize any sort of need for help. So the line "or is it just a cry for help" is kind of out of place. The rest of the bridge is fantastic, and I really like the chorus. In fact, the whole song is good except for that one line.

Hi'a Marv,
Really very good, love the chorus, find the verses a bit difficult on the rhythm, but the words are great, so no way i can improve on it.

Go well

Alright... did a bit of an edit on the bridge. That line was bugging me too.

Really well done. I was going to suggest making it a
little longer, but now I have changed my mind. I like it as is.

Hi Marv

Really like this - why do people always find their epiphany in the most bizarre places.

Great stuff
