The Fact That You're Gone:

I pass the bar every day
On the way home from work
And on Wednesday's I always used to stop by.
I'd love to see you busy,
Your hair all in a mess.
The smile you'd flash would make my heart fly.

But now I stand at the door,
Hand raised to push it aside,
But tonight I'll drown my sorrows elsewhere.
Yesterday I drove to the shops
And went to park in our spot
But I recognised the car already there.

It's not the fact that you're gone that hurts,
It's the fact that you're still here.

I turn on my computer
And your name is highlighted green.
It turns red even as I'm shutting down.
In church on sunday morning,
Someone asks me 'how are you?'
I hear you lie across the room 'no, really, I'm fine now.'

It's not the fact that you're gone that hurts,
It's the fact that you're still here.

Everything's changed.
Same job, same clothes, same car, same phone.
Just differently arranged.

It's not the fact that you're gone that hurts,
It's the fact that you're still here.

Got there in the end! Although whether that's a good thing is up for debate...

Any comments/suggestions most appreciated.

hey ya.

these are great:
It's not the fact that you're gone that hurts,
It's the fact that you're still here.
Everything's changed.
Same job, same clothes, same car, same phone.
Just differently arranged.

I also like the following two lines but got a question:
Someone asks me 'how are you?'
I hear you lie across the room 'no, really, I'm fine now.'
I think you might want it to say "someone asks 'how are you?'"..so you're not asked, she is asked the question, right? at least that#s how I get it from the next line.. just a thought. otherwise amazing lines.

well done! :D

Hey guys!

BNA, I was trying to give the impression that we are both being asked the same question and both giving the same answer. Clearly I have failed! I'll give it some thought on how to put it better, or otherwise default to your suggestion.
There's certainly nothing wrong with what you're saying, it's just that I was trying (and failing) to say more.

LK. I know EXACTLY what you mean - that's just the style I had in my head when writing these lyrics. Will see if I can get some music down soon.

Well, thanks for your comments folks! Much appreciated as always.

wow, that's great. just forget what I wrote before and keep it the way you have it(unless you can really come up with something better to get it across). might have been just me not getting it right away. even if not, who cares as long as there is a reason you wrote it the way you did.

cheers,
