BAGGAGE HANDLER'S BLUES

I'm sweating on the tarmac, it's rolling down my back, must be 102
can't hear myself think, don't have time to blink, man I hate what I do
everyday's the same, each luggage claim gives me the feeling of deja vu
I got them standing on the runway, wasting my life away
baggage handler's blues

I just unload the planes, don't ever complain, keep at it til the shift's thru
at the end of the day, I wash it all away, with a tv dinner & a couple brews
when tommorow rolls in, I'll be back in the luggage bin, doing what it is I do
I got them working for the daily wage, wasting my life away
baggage handler's blues

I got 18 years, of my blood sweat & tears and paid all my union dues
they went bankrupt, so now the gig's up, they handed me my walking shoes
now I'm sitting on the sofa, listening to Oprah, all day got nothing to do
How I wish I was standing on the runway, working the day away
with them baggage handler's blues

*********************************

I actually had a different one about a stand-up comic and each verse ended with a joke [but some of the jokes were a bit off-color] so I posted the above one instead. Anyways, here's the first verse:

it's showtime now, the crowd is in
no place to hide, it's sink or swim
there's always shark circling at your feet
[spoken]
"Have you heard the one about the alter boy, the Rabbi & the priest?"

Keep the faith...

Two more interesting ideas (and definitely save the stand up comic - Bob will probably use this topic again although not as soon as I've asked him to... )

I like how this works, the internal rhymes, the attention to detail (the TV dinner and Oprah lines are great and mirror each other in a nice way), all in all it's pretty cool. The only thing I'd say is that in the second verse you use "minimum wage" and, especially since it's a union job, it's safe to say your narrator makes (or made, I should say) a little better than that.

Good to see that you've been a regular here this year Mike and looking forward, as always, to more from you.

Peace
