Okay I almost passed on this one 'cause I was out of town and well I sort of felt a little uncomfortable using someone else's chorus anyway. (And yeah I know it's supposed to be a collaborative exercise). I was afraid a good chorus might inspire me to write a song I really liked and then couldn't use because the chorus didn't belong to me...or worse yet, the chorus would be the best part of the song, lol. There were some great choruses submitted last week, but this one I liked especially, which is why I purposely didn't take it with me. However, by the last day, while lying out by the pool drinking margaritas, I just couldn't help myself. By that time, naturally, (those were some good margaritas) I couldn't remember the chorus or even who wrote it (took me forever to find it again) so I ended up writing my own. Not sure if my verses do the original chorus justice or if they even fit so after my longwinded monologue here I'll submit both versions. Thanks for your time and patience, lol....Joe
Stillborn Epiphany (with Portia's chorus)
It's simply put, nothing cryptic
And somehow still a mystery
Underfoot, nothing mystic
And somehow still so hard to see
Chorus:
At the end of all your hopes and dreams
And everything you thought life could be
You open your eyes and pray to see
But find nothing but a stillborn epiphany
The nights drag on, the days fly by
And nothing makes much sense
As you go on wondering why
The air around you seems so dense
Chorus
For so long you think you know
All the answers there could be
But you're wrong and now you know
That nothing comes for free

Stillborn Epiphany (my version)

Simply put, nothing cryptic
And somehow still a mystery
Underfoot, nothing mystic
And somehow still so hard to see
Chorus:
I've grown bolder but no stronger
Colder and blue skies are
So much harder to see
And the nights seem so much longer
'Cause I'm older but no wiser
In a stillborn epiphany
The nights drag on, days fly by
And nothing makes much sense
And I go on wondering why
The air around me seems so dense
Chorus
For so long thought I knew
All the answers there could be
But I was wrong, nothing new
To think that love would come for free
