Bob got me thinking, The Beach Boys - THE sound of summer - 'tis true, every year, as soon as we get a decent couple of days, we evict the spiders from the sun loungers - which are in the shed for most of the year - and laze around in the back yard drinking cold lager .... with the BB on the Stereo....

So I tried to incorporate the BB into each verse - funny how us Brits always equate summer with an American surfer band! ......

This might need a bit of work yet, but I just played it and the Mrs likes it - haven't told her yet, but she's going to have to sing "Fun Fun Fun" in the last line.....oh and yeah, it's a bit derivative, the way I played it, sounded a bit like a BB song but not that good -

Ah well......here's how it goes......

Summer at last!

Seems like we've been waiting forever for summer to come,
And now it's finally arrived and the kids are out in the sun,
So let's get outside and soak up some rays and a cold one or two,
And get the barbecue fired up and play some Beach Boys tunes,
And get the paddling pool out and fill it up for the little ones,
And who cares how wet you get as long as they're having fun!

Get the loungers out for those who just want to laze,
And lie back doing nothing, well, hell, it's a sunny day,
Maybe later we'll go for a drive with the soft top down,
No particular place to go, just cruising around,
"Endless Summer" blasting out of the car stereo,
OK it ain't a T-bird, it's just a Ford Mondeo!

Maybe tomorrow we'll take a trip down the M6,
Take the camera, take a whole lot of pics,
Spend the day on the beach, take a mortgage on a deckchair,
Treat the kids to an all-day ticket to the funfair,
And drive home with the stereo blasting out the Beach Boys,
And we'll sing "Fun Fun Fun" and we'll make a whole lot of noise!

______________________________________

Couple of lines in there I'm not at all happy with, but it's just a first draft......and it's a while since I wrote a "Fun" song....I'll work on this a bit more tomorrow....

:D :D :D

Ray Davies would be proud of you, Vic!

Really like the last two lines of the second verse and the "take a mortgage on a deckchair" lines. This sounds like it's going to be fun to listen to and can't wait to hear it.

Peace

Vic,

Nice Job! We hear on the U.S. East Coast equate Summer
with the West Coast sound of the Beach Boys also. Thier
sound is universal in that respect.

And now you're being compared to Ray Davies again

That's Cool

Nice job Vic

"Endless Summer" blasting out of the car stereo,
OK it ain't a T-bird, it's just a Ford Mondeo!

Love that line, it's a great comical addition!

My only *slight* niggle (?) is that there seems to be a lot of the word "And" in there.

You could probably take some of them out;

Seems like we've been waiting forever for summer to come,
Now it's finally arrived and the kids are out in the sun

So let's get outside and soak up some rays, drink a cold one or two,
Get the barbecue fired up and play some Beach Boys tunes,
And get the paddling pool out and fill it up for the little ones,
Who cares how wet you get as long as they're having fun!

Spend the day on the beach, take a mortgage on a deckchair,
Treat the kids to an all-day ticket to the funfair,
Driving home with the stereo blasting out the Beach Boys,
We'll sing "Fun Fun Fun" and we'll make a whole lot of noise!

Might help it flow a bit more?

Pete

Good point Pete, I do seem to use the word "and" a lot - it's been pointed out before, but strangely, most of them seem to disappear when I record.....
