here is a rough demo of an idea:

http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=12155293

Verse 1

Riding a winding highway home
Backseat in a super beetle
Tires pushing pavement drone
Wind blown in a banana peel

Chorus
Hope flew, turn through
The last curve thrown
Childhood illusion gone
home

Verse 2
Confined in a structured steel cage
Carrying cargo gained
Anticipate pre-release of rage
With baseless hope ingrained

Repeat chorus

Bridge
Deep mountain abyss, blasphemy or bliss
Wander in the dark, searchin for a spark
of daylight

Repeat chorus

Hi Andy,
The nice thing about songs and lyrics is that they mean whatever they mean to the listener, personally I love abstraction and cryptic lyrics. In my version of your song it’s a trucker and the reality of driving through the night, in contrast to the childhood excitement and wonder of a road trip.

Not quite sure what this line means though
Anticipate pre-release of rage
Particularly the “pre-release” bit

Other than than that it works for me, well done :D

Hi Andy,

I'm glad to see you post again

As far as the song, the mood of the music kept me interested, but the lyrics alienated me.

At first I pictured a kid riding in the back of the car, but the 2nd verse I thought of a wild animal being released back to nature, so my brain said this doesn't make sense and "left the song"; and focused on the arpeggio guitar playing.

While still a mystery, thanks for sharing :D

James

James and Paul, Thanks for the comments, inspireed by the topic to write feelings of an amalgam of tension-filled car trips with relatives. So "prerelease" is an askew reference to a kid trying not to fan the flames of simmering anger in an adult. The steel cage reference is a dual reference to poodles in a cage in the small back seat of a Volkswagen and the car itself as a steel cage wrapped around human occupants. :). Oh and it is a minor key, and in open E minor (EGBEBE) guitar tuning. Doing FAWM and lifebusy so not much time for edits now.
