Well I did the open tuning option - I've done a song based on a photograph (or photographs) twice already for the SSG - I thought there wasn't another one in me. Then I was throwing out some accumulated junk - going through my life and getting rid of the bad parts, if you like. Came across a photograph of myself with the first wife, we'd only been going out for a couple of weeks and the future looked rosy from where I was....that's the trouble with being forever optimistic, reality has a nasty habit of smacking you in the face and clearing away the daydreams....

Ah well, here's a song based on that particular photograph.....

Snapshot

An instant in time - a black-and-white snapshot of younger days,
Faces caught in a kaleidoscope whirl,
A freeze-frame moment in a sepia haze,
Lives preserved in a monochrome world....

A second of eternity - a fleeting glimpse of an endless view,
Two people caught in a fisheye lens,
A nostalgic look at me and you,
Distorted, confused like life was then....

A life forever gone - preserved on film like an amber fly,
Always trapped in a tarnished frame,
Lost in time not knowing why,
Never to come to life again....

A snapshot from the past - a past forever the same,
But I can never right those wrongs,
However much I'd like it to change,
Now we'll never sing that song......

One instant in time - a black-and-white snapshot of younger days,
Faces caught in a kaleidoscope whirl,
A freeze-frame moment in a sepia haze,
Lives preserved in a monochrome world....

I haven't quite finished with the music yet, there's something missing in a couple of places, every chord I've tried there so far just seems to be missing a little something - if I can't come up with something in the morning, I'll post the chords I've got, see if anyone's got any better ideas.

:D :D :D

beautifully put :D (and amen to that)

I like the way the lyrics seem to swirl, too. You get the feeling you're looking at pictures/the past from the inside of a carroussel, wlel, at least I do :D
Especially love these here:
A freeze-frame moment in a sepia haze
preserved on film like an amber fly
Always trapped in a tarnished frame

One tiny thought: in the last verse, I have of course no idea if this would fit your music at all, I can hear it being sung like this "However much I'd like to change it, now we'll never sing that song......", too. It's only a minor change and it wrecks your rhyme scheme, but if you picture it being sung a bit faster... argh.. can't explain.. would have to sing it for you
So ignore this, please :D

Can't wait to hear it :D
Cheers,
starycat.

Both challenges this week Vic!....?
Great 8)

Wow - I'll never look at pictures the same again! :P

I really like the third verse - 'a life forever gone'

I like how you gave it life - 'Lost in time, not knowing why'
and then took it away - 'never to come to life again'

My only complaint is the use of 'life' so much....
Twice in that verse, and with - 'confused like life', and again (twice more) with - 'Lives preserved'

Photography means - writing with light.... quite literally: capturing light.
Maybe you could use that somehow....?

'snapshots' are moments in time.... so perhaps - a TIME forever gone.... Never to come to life again.

Anyway - Liked it alot :D
