Edit: If you want to cut to the chase and listen http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7309412

Well, my son says we need to record a new album. Being the song writer, I have been slowing us down and I think I might throw my hat in this ring to try to spur myself into creativity. I'm working 24 hours of overtime this pay period and have limited time off so .... PERFECT! I just got off a long shift of wiping a#@s and saving lives. (Thats what nurses do) I opened a cold beer before bed and sat down and cranked this out. I'll have to write the music later and I do plan to record it, but just wanted to float this out there. Heck .. didn't think to write a title. I'll call it "Wiping A#@s and Saving Lives"

Well Don McLean said the music done died but I say it aint so
The music's still here and it sure is clear that it aint gonna go

Buddy and JP and Richie V will be missed for sure that's clear
But the musics alive and feeling fine at least that's what I hear

Rock & Roll is my music
Rock & Rolls my friend
Rock & Roll will fill my life
With joy until the end

So don't be sad about what we had and just do this thing my friend
Just pic up a guitar and you might get far with every string you bend

Jimi and Janis and Kurt and Keith Moon live inside of me
Just burn a guitar at the hotel pool and throw in a TV

What made them great was they were free spirits and now their spirits are free
Rock & Roll is for free spirits and it's made for you and me

Rock & Roll is my music
Rock & Rolls my friend
Rock & Roll will fill my life
With joy until the end

Well, I canprobably write more .... my songs tend to be short on words and long on guitar cause I sing bad. :P Wait til you hear the solo though

Looks like your off to a good start :D ...Seems like you're focusing more on the positive...Yes, they are gone, but the spirit of rock n' roll lives on..... or as DB says "Rock On!"
Just burn a guitar at the hotel pool and throw in a TV I wasn't quite sure if you meant to throw a TV in a pool after you burn the guitar or burn a TV after you're done burning the guitar at the hotel pool....either way, I'm sure if someone gets a hold of this song and does what it says, it will keep your saving and wiping in business

Burn the guitar by the pool first, then throw it in - hopefully to join Keith Moon's Rolls Royce. THEN pick a random bedroom, preferably at least six floors up, and eject TV through window to join guitar and RR. Simple.

TR, nice surprise to see you in here....never thought of you as a writer really, more as a cover artist and pretty good guitarist.

Good start, though - you seem to feel exactly the same way as I do about R'n'R - it's gotta be loud, raucous, in-your-face and most of all, FUN!

Like the internal rhymes...

"Buddy and JP and Richie V will be missed for sure that's clear
But the musics alive and feeling fine at least that's what I hear"

That's a clever one, stood out for me anyway.

"Rock & Roll is my music
Rock & Rolls my friend
Rock & Roll will fill my life
With joy until the end"

Minor quibble here - "joy" isn't a word I'd use about r'n'r. Fun, maybe. Laughter, at a push. But hey, as you're a nurse, how about something like

"Rock & Roll is my music
Rock & Rolls my friend
Rock & Roll will charge my life
With adrenalin 'til the end....."

Great start, look forward to hearing a recording....and hopefully, more songs.....!

:D :D :D

Hey TR
Nice to see you here.

I noticed you had an internal rhyme in the second line verses
here - clear
guitar - far

So I thought you might want that in the second verse too

Buddy and JP and Richie V are gone forever that's clear
But their spirit's alive, their songs survive and their music's still here
alive - survive

It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.

Thanks everyone and I'll sure use those suggestions. Yeah, Vic, back in the day I wrote a song or two but not for quite some time. I guess I just never had anything to say so I was checking out this thread and thought ..... this might motivate me. Wasn't even thinking about the "internal rhyme" thing or anything. I guess I never really analyzed song writing so don't expect too much. Now to come up with a tune .... can't do it now as I am currently at work. Not much wiping tonight, more the life saving end of the business.

Nice!

The only thing that didn't seem to flow with me is
Jimi and Janis and Kurt and Keith Moon live inside of me

I'm not sure what you would do to change it though, I'm still new to this song writing thing, and my feedback is pretty limited.

In Space, no one can hear me sing!

Looking forward to hearing this line sung. I like it and it is clever but I need to hear it in context.

OK ... tonight I will be home alone. Plan to spend the evening in the studio and write some music for this. Here is what I ended up with .... with a little help from my friends.

Hey TR!

Way to introduce yourself to the SSG! Nice job.

I agree with Joe about that one line and thought this might work:
Jimi and Janis and Kurt and Keith live on in you and me

Just a thought.

Looking forward to the music!

Peace

Thanks David! I started the demo last night and the line everyone is concerned about is really no problem, you'll see. I have space in the music and it leaves me latitude, think of Keith Moon as one word ... Keithmoon. The cuts I did last night are rough, I plan to work on a more polished demo and upload it later this morning. Thanks again.

OK, rough demo is done. I plan to record it without mistakes at a later time. Thunderfingers and I have a CD planned and this little group here is going to be my songwriting inspiration. So far so good. I want to appoligize for not checking out the other threads here too well yet, time has been short and consumed with my own composition. Selfish of me for sure. Here is what I got so far.

Just had a listen...sounds well under way :D ...You have a uniqueness to your solos which isn't so easy to do :note1:
I also like the "spoken lines" part of the song.

Suggestion:
Label me the  BIGGEST HYPOCRITE  for even trying to mention this on a week I submitted a song with 13 verses with all the same melody line  but I will make the suggestion anyway...consider more variety in you rhythm guitar chords...you have the same chord progression for the intro, verse, chorus, and solos....In addition, they are all the same level of intensity which limits the potential dynamics and contrast of the song.

Thanks for sharing!

James

WTG, TR
Yeh, Sounds fine to me.

I think you stumbled on the line with the TV . . . you might want to work that one out.

Good job.

Yeah, I usually have some chord changes for the chorus and such but decided to deviate from the normal pattern for this one cause thats what I heard in my head. I dunno, I guess I tend to just go by feel and not overthink things. :?
