Well I'm not sure if I can make this upbeat, and it's kinda rushed I guess, and has nothing to do with reunions
Originally it was going to be an atheist's reunion with 'his maker'. heh, oh well, still turned out alright... :)
They say that life
Is just a game
To please the crowd
To get through the day
But is it easier
To think differently
And see, that life
Is what you make it to be
Life is too short
To ask so many questions
Just live right now
And let those questions die
They say that life
Is just a game
Well I think differently
I know (something something.. lol)
I've heard the stories
Time and time again
But I don't care
They fall on deaf ears
Life is too short
To ask so many questions
Just live right now
And let those questions die
Did we evolve?
What created man?
If the Lord exists
Will I get punished for asking?
Life is too short
To ask so many questions
Just live right now
And let those questions die
Life is too short
To ask so many questions
Just live right now
And let those questions die
Oh, I like the idea of the atheist meeting his maker . . . that has possibilities.
Let's see . . . you pooped out on,
They say that life
Is just a game
Well I think differently
I know (something something.. lol)
How about
They say that life
Is just a game
Well, if that's the case
What do I do to win? (or Then what's the score? or Then who is winning? . . )
And I'm not sure about this verses ending . . .
Did we evolve?
What created man?
If the Lord exists
Will I get punished for asking?
How about
Did we evolve?
What created man?
If the Lord exists
(Then) why won't he answer? . . . not returning my calls?
I don't think it sounds atheist at all . . . you're asking questions.
"Seek, and ye shall find . . . knock, and it shall be opened."
It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.
Jay,
Good start :D It would have been quite interesting if you did stick with initial meeting and see where it led to....since you didn't, consider what story or senario is taking place...
a couple ideas to consider exploring word be "carpe dium" "cease the day" and/or explore the idea of your statement "life is too short". Since "too short" is a comparison, it is an opinion not a fact....so explore the idea of "who says life is too short?" or "who says life is too long?"....is the unexamined life worth living? or not? Why?
In addition, you have your own idea for the song started "life is what you make it to be"...so consider developing that idea through the verses....and/or why it is easier to think differently.
But is it easier
To think differently
And see, that life
Is what you make it to be
Also consider making a verse like this either a question or a statement. "They say" adds wordiness
for example
Life is just a game
(To) please the crowd
(To) get through the day
or
(I was going to make this into a question but then it would conflict with your statement)
Life is too short
To ask so many questions
Just live right now
And let those questions die
so that brings up the next point where the questions verse is in conflict with the idea of the song b/c you say let the questions die but then ask the questions anyway
Did we evolve?
What created man?
If the Lord exists
Will I get punished for asking?
Besides, thanks to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, we all know the answer to the meaning of life is 42

...take or leave whatever fits your purpose.
James
Thanks for the comments :D
Nice suggestions for the verses KR2, will add a couple changes to it soon. You're right it's not very atheist, I just seem to offend people too easily nowadays so it's better to warn about it.
The possibility is to start with a questioning verse, and then go into life being too short for questions, and then exploring who says so as James suggested. That could frame it better I guess. Nice suggestion on the first verse too James, thanks :)
Was reading lyrics from Coolnama posted on the GN Songwriting Club board . . .
which got me thinking about this song again . . . and this week's assignment . . . of being reunited with a friend.
Another interesting perspective on this assignment would be to write about finally meeting the devil . . .
after you have died . . . and reflecting on ol' times.
It's the rock that gives the stream its music . . . and the stream that gives the rock its roll.
