Very cool! Thanks for that, Tele.
One of those role models that were out there, but that many of us girls never knew about in our formative years.

When my mind is free, you know a melody can move me
And when I'm feelin' blue, the guitar's comin' through to soothe me ~

None of us knew about her when we were younger, she had 3 strikes against her going into it.
1)She was a pure blues and gospel performer. Most of us came to the blues through R&R which meant players like Muddy and Wolf, and most didn't hear of Gospel till later on in life.
2) She was Black. Until the early to mid 60's white kids weren't exposed to Black performers as a general rule. And the Black Performerswe did see were Motown vocal groups.
3) She was a she, and unless a woman was doing folk music she was pretty much discounted in pop music when we were growing up

Ooooh! :D You need to listen to some Memphis Minnie, too! And, there are a whole bunch more female blues players from the turn of the century through the 50's.
