Whatever you want to call it; It sounds pretty good to me. Just keep on working on stuff you like. Don't try to fit it in a genre. :)
When I think garage rock I think of stuff from the 50's like The Troggs.Huh? The Troggs were formed in 1964. http://www.makingtime.co.uk/troggs.html Although there may have been lots of groups doing their practicing in garages in the Fifties, I think the real garage band sound is a Sixties thing. I realize some of you younger guys may think that was back about the time the original troglodytes were around ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troglodyte ), but . . .
You had a good one going with your checklist, though. ("3. Lyrics must be no deeper than a puddle." ) I think you left out #2, so I came up with one: "A keyboard player with a reedy combo organ will be a real plus."
Although some of them might have had more than one record on the charts before they disappeared from view, Dogbite is right. Lots of "one-hit wonders." (? and the Mysterians, anyone?)
Hi.
The archetypal 60s garage was played by the Sonics.
They did nothing but play rhythm & blues in a more primitive fashion and louder.
Still, they anticipated metal and punk in a number of ways.
One of the many acknowledged labels to their style is "60s Garage Punk".
They were really good!
