I don't know about the line 6 guitar port or using the USB port, the mixer is analog so you cant plug it into the USB port ( its digital) You can get a USB interface instead of a mixer, but your talking a lot more money.
There's a Line In & Line Out on the Guitar Port...there has to be in order for it to work so if I understand this properly it would go:
guitar>Guitar Port>mixer>computer correct? The only thing is to find out where my speakers would go? Maybe out of the mixer itself?

the speaker out put is on the sound card ( line out) , same one you are using now. I have a stereo reciever hooked up to my sound card. The mixer output voltage is way to low hook up speakers to, and you would only hear what you are playing and not what you have recorded( in other words it would be very hard to multitrack)--the dog
It seems to me that the guitar port acts as an interface of sorts. You can plug your guitar into it and then run it to your PC via USB. With that said, you wouldn't need a mixer (it's a good idea to get one though because you can control your sound a little better than without one).
So it seems all you would do is-
guitar > guitar port > USB > recording program (you can hear the sound through your PC speakers)
With mixer-
guitar > mixer > guitar port > USB > recording program
Unless they make a USB to ¼ or 1/8 inch adapter, you would have to put the guitar port after the mixer in your chain.
Just a quick thought.

First off, you guys have to forget about the USB..the sound has NOTHING to do with that. The sound uses the Line In/Out.
Now tracker if I use your model with the guitar port AFTER the mixer how would the effects go through the mixer? On the back of the Guitar Port is a LIne In Line Out and of course the USB. Right now the it looks like this:
guitar>Guitar Port>computer Then the speakers come out of the guitar port
Would this mixer work or are there specific ones for guitar?
Thanks
I thought its line out was the USB, sorry.
So how does the USB come into play?
I believe the USB is there to connect the hardware with the Guitar Port software

Yes, that would work.

Now I understand, sorry for the brain fart.
You can go – guitar > guitar port > mixer > soundcard.
Soundcards aren't the best for recording “quality†tracks. In the future you would want to up-grade or buy an audio interface.
audio interface as in a mixer or something to record with?
audio interface as in a mixer or something to record with?
No, as something to by-pass your soundcard so you can produce quality recordings.
If you had an audio interface you would go -
guitar > guitar port > mixer > audio interface > PC for recording.
The audio interface is there to by-pass most crappy soundcards.

that would work fine, the next model up for $49 has phantom power, that may come in handy later and its only $15 more.--the dog
