I have a question about playing this while singing. In the lesson, the last chord is an E, and it has the first words to the second verse under it. Does that mean that when playing the second verse, you play the E, then skip the Am that was the first measure of the first verse, and go to the C? So the first line of the first verse is Am, C, D, Fmaj7 but the first line of the second verse would be E, C, D, Fmaj7?
This is still a pretty popular song here in Louisiana, but you gotta have the words. Singing this song is the only time it is excusable to say "New Orleens" instead of New Orlins or N'awlins. :lol:

When practising this one in 6/8 with a metronome, is it correct that if set it at say 60bpm as a start, tapping my foot once per beat, the timing would be 123 on the down motion and 456 on the up motion of the foot? That is, play one triplet on the way down and one on the way up?

Usually if you're playing along with a metronome in 6/8, you count every click as one triplet. So you'd have (Click) two three (Click) five six.
But you can certainly do it the way you suggest. It'll be a faster tempo...
