I am trying to write a song called Answers, but I think my lyrics do not fit the subject of the song. So I'm trying to think of a subject.

What could this song be about?

Please reply!

what you've learned growing up... maybe about religion, or physics, or people

you could make it a breakup song... why did it end? why did she cheat on me, etc.

you could make it about the war.

I never really come up with the name before the song, but that's just me. You should think of some of the times you've needed answers, or a question that you need the answer to. Something that you don't understand.

This goes for me also , get the idea for a song but never the title write the song then look at what you wrote then the title should be staring at you

Here is to you as good as you are
And here is to me as bad as I am
As good as you are and as bad as I am
I'm as good as you are as bad as I am

I guess thinking of the title is similar to thinking of a theme....If you have come up with the theme of an answer....just expand on it...make it personal....think of times uve searched and searched for answers? maybe you found them? maybe you didnt?....maybe sometime someone wanted answers from you?...did you give them?..did you have the answers?... what happened if you did?.......maybe we all look for answers in the wrong places?....what should we do instead?.....i think maybe u should make your song like a journey....like a 'mind-map'...so to speak.....u dont have to make it personal......its just usually easy to write that way....Just describe everything u can about the subject....use imagery maybe- what did it feel like? what could you compare it to?

sorry thats all i can really say.....sorry if it didnt help.......

Answers is a broad topic; life is full of basic questions that don't have any answers; why are we here, where are we going, what happens after death, etc. These questions can frustrate people and even make them go crazy; however, there are other questions that you think you can answer, but you've never thought to look at your answer and how accurate it is. It's like an evolutionist who doesn't believe in God because of the fact that evolution has been 'proven'; then you ask them how the earth started and they give a blank look. Also notice how I put quotes around the word proven-because what can we really prove?

Sorry to get all philosophical on you...but that's the basis of 'Answers.' What I would do is start thinking about various hard, answer-less philosophical questions (How do I know I exist, how can I believe in something I can't see, is there an afterlife) until you drive yourself nuts and your brain hurts. Then write down whatever it is you're thinking, and hopefully it'll transform itself into a line or verse, and go from there. That's just me though.

Dont rush inspiration. When the songs ready to come out of you it will. Keep paper and pen or a tape recorder nearby you so that whenever it comes to you you'll be ready.

Sorry to change the subject!
Now I need help with ideas for a song I'm writing called February
Any suggestions for that?

(Answers could also use more suggestions, too)

I've NEVER heard of anyone writing a song based on the name, but it seems from the suggestions here that it could be very effective, especially with group ideas going out there and all.

"February" brings to mind cold, winter, the middle of winter actually.

Are winters happy, do you see gently falling snow and toasty fires and hot chocalate and snowball fights and snow angels.

Or are winters sad, cold and windy, and the sun hardly comes out from behind the clouds, and Spring seems so far off, and every seems so monotonous after the holiday season.

There are many other moods and themes to go with the word February (Valentines Day perhaps) and endless possibilities. Let us know what you have in mind

Personally, if I were writing it I'd make it a teenage love song using some Valentine's day stuff and maybe the extended metaphor of the snow angel ("She's my snoooowww angel...")

This sort of group contributing to the songwriting process is very interesting. We should do this more often.

Maybe it's a song about finding out what the song is about.

Agreed.

What does it mean to you? It doesn't matter what it means to us.

these last two replies have it the nail on the head. Have you given this thought?

Absolutely, I have! (Sry if I seem to be mad)
But some of the ideas I think just suck. I'm that type of person that needs to do everything perfect. (I know things take time)
I thought about making February a song about coming home from a "semester in college" or whatever, but the winter has been way too cold, so I might as well just wait until the peak of the winter has ended... I just didn't think it would work too well. :( :(
