Like, one or two killer lines? C'mon, we all have them......

For me, the greatest line ever just HAS to be Tom Waits at the start of Romeo Is Bleeding....."Ga goo ga!"

Seriously, though..........

Aint it just like the night to play tricks when ya trying to be so quiet
We all sit here stranded, though we're all doin our best to deny it (Dylan, Visions Of Johanna)

We might die from medication but we sure killed all the pain (Bright Eyes, Lua)

I used to live with Leonard before I knew ya (Jeff Buckley doin' Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah live)

Ra Er Ga.

Ninjazz have SuperChops.

something for kate - "the table between us is thre centre of the universe whats your game?"
and - "your heart is pounding in my head!"

rise against - the good left undone "all because of you, i believe in angels, not the kind with wings no not the kind with halo's"

death cab for cutie "if heaven and hell decide that they both are satisfied, illuminate the 'no's' on their vacancy signs..."

Ring those bells, that still can ring,
Forget your perfect offering,
There's a crack, a crack in everything,
That's how the light gets in. (Leonard Cohen, Anthem)

There's a truly important message in these lines for aspiring artists of any sort!

Lyrically, it doesn't get any better than Leonard Cohen, imho. Even Bob, love him as I do, doesn't measure up in terms of pure poetry. Leonard's the man.

If you should happen to be correct Jersey Jack - which I doubt :-) - I have a lot to look forward to. In my world it doesn't get any better than Bob yet

There are litterally 100s of his songs that makes me smile or cry or think

This one always makes me sigh

I've been hit too hard; I've seen too much
Nothing can heal me now, but your touch
I don't know what I'm gonna do
I was all right 'til I fell in love with you (Til I fell in love with you - Time Out of Mind)

Quotes are unfair tho' - Desolation Row, Highlands, Where are you tonight, 4th time around, Stuck inside of Mobile, Tangled up in blue, Can't Wait, Love Minus zero ...

Oh and one more - Nighthawks Postcard from Tom Waits Nighthawks at the diner. The entire song is like a really big picture with lots of funny litte details

don't think I have that one, but Tom Waits is a huge influence on me, lol, something like Romeo Is Bleeding, its just so visual and ironic in its lyrics.

Agreed that its sometimes hard to just snatch a couple of lines from a song as tight as many Dylan has written are.....

"The women I've known, I wouldn't let tie my shoe."

Part of a Rod Stewart song.

I'm not a Stewart fan, but I always like that line.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss........

She told me to stay and she asked me to sit anywhere,
So I looked around and I noticed there wasn't a chair....

Then in flies a guy who's all dressed up just like a Union Jack,
And says, I've won five pounds if I have his kind of detergent pack....

Well it's a mighty long way down rock and roll,
From the Liverpool docks to the Hollywood Bowl.....

There's a few old favourites off the top of my head - I'll have to have a think about this one.

:D :D :D

Some golden oldies from me, but nothing's touched these in years IMHO:

"...the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls..." - Paul Simon, The Sound Of Silence

"...and I ask well hey man, well what did you do with the peace? Well we built these real safe weapons, so you could sleep with ease..." - Stuart Adamson, We're Not In Kansas

"...in the street the flags are burning, for the women veiled and howling, while the schoolboys fire machine guns for the man from CNN..." - Stuart Adamson, The Hostage Speaks

Lots of stuff by Counting Crows too, and SOAD, but nothing specifically good to quote here.

The words of love in whispers
And the acts of love in screams - Elvis Costello

Frank settled down out in the Valley,
and he hung his wild years on a
nail that he drove through his
wife's forehead. - Tom Waits

Broken hearts and dirty windows
Make life difficult to see
That's why last night and this mornin'
Always look the same to me - John Prine

She asked if I remembered the letters I wrote
When our love was young and bold
She said last night she read those letters
And they made her feel one hundred years old - Springsteen

I guess it was the beatings made me wise
But I'm not about to give thanks, or apologize - Pearl Jam

Is a dream a lie if it don't come true, or is it something worse- Springsteen

Falling in love is like learning to play the guitar; first you learn to follow the rules, then you learn to play with your heart.

Oh, Springsteen--these lines from "The River" never fail to give me chills:

I just act like I don't remember,
and Janey acts like she don't care,
But I remember....

The past never goes away, and memories of good times survive to torment us. If only we could really forget things!

Best,
Jersey Jack
