just working it out i've spent about a grand on strings, not to mention pics and capos (i get through a lot strangely?). I wont dare tell my bank manager how much i've spent on guitars. I'm 25 I should be spending my money on beer!
My total investment is the following:
Fender custom shop strat 1500.00
1956 Gibson ES-225T 2000.00
Tayler 810 acoustic 1500.00
Fender Super Reverb 1200.00
Switches, cabels, etc. 800.00
Total 7000.00
Wow! I had no idea it was that much!!! But... my strat
has kept it's value in fact it's now worth 200 more than
I paid for it. The Gibson should continue to go up in
value and my Taylor has also kept it's value. I can
probably sell it for what I paid for it.
I still want to get the following guitars (eventually) to add
to my collection (some day):
Fender Tele
Les Paul
OM Model Acoustic
Although I'm thinking about selling my strat since my nice guitar is
the Gibson and getting a less expensive Mexican strat and putting
better pickups in it. Does that make sense to do?
more than i care to admit! 8)

Not as bad as I feared. A lot less than I used to spend on Harleys. Pennies compared to what I would spend flying airplanes.
Next purchase probably a decent bass amp for church.
Not enough. Never enough.
A grand total of 517 Euro, which is around $615,- for:
Dean Avalanche Zone H
Ibanez RG550
Ibanez PF60
And another 430 Euro, which is around $515 for:
Behringer GMX212 amp
Behringer V-amp 2 desktop modeling unit
George Dennis Wah/Volume pedal
Cables, plectra, strings
Sennheiser headphone
MIDI cables and those little plug-thingies.
I did have the following stuff one time or the other:
Boss ME30
Boss SD1
Behringer GX108 amp
Behringer GM108 amp
Another Behringer V-amp 2
Vantage electrical guitar
But I did sell these things. I do not include this in the total costs, since I made a small profit on each and every item in this list. So I have spend around 950 Euro, or $1130, and earned about 60 Euro or $72. To me quite a lot of money, but I can now say I don't really 'need' anything new. There's plenty of stuff I would like to have, but I am very happy with what I've got, and I don't expect to spend much more anytime soon.
Difficult to tell - I bought most of mine many years ago and only started buying again in 2000.
What does strike me, as I stand there at the petrol station filling up the jalopy I drive on my way to some of my students, is that I'm carrying a $1,000 guitar in the back of a £300/ $450 car.

Im the same, my guitars are insured for £2,500, and my car is insured for £1,500, so how come im paying £40 a month for car insurance but less than that for the whole year for my guitars. Also petrol is a lot more expensive than strings. If only a guitar could get you from A-B, no pun intended.
£1750 for the '69 Strat
$2600 for the PRS

aye... it was just shy of £1500 for a custom 24 with the artist package (better looking top, gold hardware ). That would retail for nearly double that price... some places in the UK would be even more than that!!!
it's well worth the money... although my strat's getting more lovin' at the mo.
