80's hair metal was a far cry from what today's metal is. I felt that the metal songs of the 80's were more melodic, but that's only my opinion. Todays stuff sounds more drone to me (again IMHO). But what I find real funny is that what we call metal at a particular time, eventually becomes hard rock as newer metal gets popular.

it seems that that people who were born in the 50's-70's hate the 80's because it was "a musical dissapointment"(quoting my english teacher who was born in 1960) and people who were born in the 90's(me included) are too distracted with Nirvana (Cobain was the greatest songwriter of the 90's IMHO) or the 60's. :) :roll: I agree with SirN but it extends into the days of Sabbath also.
