Guitar Center IS Musician's Friend just so you are aware of that...The GC by me is OK but there is a salesman there who basically jumps on you when you walk in the door. When you tell him to leave you alone he goes away but comes back to "check if you need anythng." Most of the other clerks leave you alone until you ask for help which is what I prefer...in ANY store.

I have other shops around me as well but they are very expensive compared to internet stores. Even GC (which is ALOT higher than Musician's Friend!) is expensive. Plus in NY our sales tax is RIDICULOUS at 8%.

I went to Daddy's Junky Music for the first time 2 weeks ago and their guitars were priced well but accessories were a bit high compard to the internet. PLus if you can get free shipping you save and usually there isn't any sales tax added.

You may also want to avoid Music123.com for a month or 2 as well. It seems they are in the middle of changing their warehouse over and software "upgrade". I have been trying to contact their customer service since FRIDAY (today is TUESDAY). I have called repeatedly AND emailed them with no reply. Of course you can reach their sales department no problem.

I was told that I will have to wait another THREE to FOUR more weeks for me to get my capo! I asked them to cancel the order and they said they can't because they are SALES and told me to call customer service! I am not waiting a MONTH for a capo I can spend a few dollars more on and get it locally!

UPDATE

I know this thread originally pertained to Musician's Friend but Music123.com is also in caos...

I just got off the phone (FINALLY!) with one of their sales supervisors. In his own words "The state of Music123 is dismal and we are backed up with emails and phone calls beyond what we can handle right now! You best bet is NOT TO CALL!"

So I would hold off ordering from Music123.com for a few months.

thats horrible news for me, I was planning to order my next guitar from them within a few weeks, because MF didn't even carry it.

Please keep this updated, so I can find out about the music123 situation.

Thanks alot

You can try American Musical Supply or zzSounds I have heard good things about them. Or if you want to search for the best price try PriceGrabber.

American Musical Supply is nice because the have a payment plan. I think I'll be getting my guitars from them. That way I can get a slightly better guitar and take more time to pay it off.

Sorry to say I am not "FOLLOWING" what MUsic123 does...I just prefer to find other options and in a few months I might try them again.

I've pretty much used Musician's Friend exclusively for my online gear purchases (despite the "friends don'l let friends buy at Musician's Friend" mantra I've seen post elsewhere). I've never had a problem in the three or four years I've used them. In fact, they have a warehouse about five miles from my house and I almost always get my order within a day or two w/o purchasing express shipping.

However, I was looking for some customer service before I made an order (I had a lot of questions on some stuff I've never used before), so I used Sweetwater. Definitely slower, but did have three or four phone calls with the same sales guy before I made my purchase. I'm still going to shop around when I go online, but it is hard to beat the MF delivery time.

Actually, I used music123 once as well and had no problems.

So I would hold off ordering from Music123.com for a few months.

"We've had a few glitches in our systems. Sorry."

That was the response I got when I called them today. Items were missing from my shipment, even though M123 had emailed me that the items had all shipped and gave me the Fedex tracking numbers! However, some of the items are apparently still in the warehouse! :x

So, I agree - if you need anything right away, shop elsewhere until they get their systems working properly again.

http://www.musikproduktiv.co.uk - subsidiary of a German company. Look at the German site (.de), the whole package may work out cheaper than from the UK.
http://www.musicstore.de - German online store, good prices
http://www.thomann.de - another German online store, may or may not ship to Ireland.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.

Try these, Gordon ...

GAK - good reputation, never tried personally:
http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/

Piedog - good rep., excellent stock, never tried personally:

http://www.piedog.com/

Guitar Mania - the nicest people, immaculately setup guitars ... not always the cheapest, but the last guitar I bought from them they threw in a Fender tweed gig bag, a strap and some strings 8) (More a music shop that sells online than an online music shop, if you see what I mean) http://www.guitar-mania.com/

UK Guitars - great stock, silly prices - no idea about service http://www.ukguitars.com/

Good luck!

Mike
