If anyone's got a prayer to spare.....I'd appreciate it if you'd send it/them to my Marilyn. She's been in and out of hospital for the last few weeks with pneumonia and respiratory failure....at the time of writing, she's on a respirator and sedated. Very poorly, but stable.

I'm far from a good Christian these days, but even I've said a few "please, God, make her better" prayers....

:) :) :)

Sorry to hear it, Vic.

I don't know if I'm in good standing either, but said a prayer for you and yours this morn.

Hang in there,

Vic, if it's any good, here's a prayer that my friend wrote for me (this week) because I have been in a real mess with life overall, and poor health, and he's trying to be politically correct, or blames himself for not being able to help me enough.

But he also assumes that if I say the prayer, that I will take responsibility for being "material" or accumulating too many possessions and walking out on my church, which condemned me for following my own interests, and not glorifying God?

I wrote the last part with him - that's a prayer in itself for you - the short version, and easier to ponder & recite quickly:

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for loving us
and for calling us to come close to You.
Thank You for never giving up on us
even if I have often strayed
away from You.

Thank You for the many times
You have been faithful
to Your promises
despite all our unfaithfulness, sins,
failures and weaknesses.

Thank You for Your concern
for my spiritual life and for planting in us
this desire to draw closer to You.

Thank You for Your healing mercy
and forgiveness for the many ways
We have offended You in my thoughts,
words and actions.

We come before You now with a humble heart
asking, seeking, knocking
and hoping to experience
Your loving healing presence.

We come seeking healing for those times
of our prayerlessness
due to laziness or giving more priority
to our other interests and activities.

Heal us for the times we have depended
on our own efforts or from others
and disregarded You.

For the times we were blinded
by our self-centeredness
and many worldly concerns
and easily gave in to temptations.

Search within us, O God, and help us see,
the areas in our lives that need
Your healing love and mercy.

Create in us a clean heart.

Give us the grace to put You
as first priority in my life
at all times and to turn away from sin
or occasions and influences
that lead to sin.

Teach us to pray
and give us the desire to pray
as often as we can.

Lift us up when my prayer seems dry and
empty,
when we feel as though my prayers are not being heard.

Strengthen us with patience
and perseverance
when trials and obstacles
make us feel like giving up.

Guide us in the right path
that leads only to You.

Dearest Lord,
draw us near to You always.
Let our spirits be filled with Your Power
and Healing Presence.

We lift up Marilyn now, and ask that you heal her
and restore her health and strength.
Comfort and be with Vic in his time of need,
while he is hurting and offers his love and support for Marilyn.

We ask this in the Name of Jesus Christ the Author of Salvation,
the Object of the Gospels, and our Loving Lord.

Like a bird on the wire,
like a drunk in a midnight choir
I have tried in my way to be free.

Vic, while not a Christian, I will send some prayers your way. Whether Marilyn's current situation is something that has been on ongoing problem or something that came out of the blue, I wish the best for both of you.

Jay, very nice of your friend to write a prayer for you and very nice of you to share it.

I am SO sorry, Vic! Of course Marilyn will be in my prayers and so will you! Give her a kiss for me, please. If you need to talk or anything, you know where I am!

Hope everything goes well for her, Vic.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.

Thanks, everyone, for your kind wishes and prayers. Blue Jay, thanks for sharing that prayer.

Update - Marilyn's condition unchanged, still on respirator, still sedated. They tried to bring her round this afternoon, but as she was coming out of sedation, her heart rate became way too fast and blood pressure dropped to a dangerously low level, so they resumed sedation and put her back under. Heart rate back to normal, BP back to normal. She's being seen by a neurologist tomorrow, so we'll know more after that, although we have been told she could be on the respirator for a while yet. So, very poorly, but stable.

Oh, and they've moved her to a different section of the ICU - which I'm particularly pleased about as she is no longer in bed 13!
