Very sad to hear about this - I heard on my classical radio station (NY TIMES station) this morning that he was in serious condition. He was a true master and his voice would make me choke up at times. I'm very sad that I never got to see him in concert.

His "signature" song,

I just saw this myself. I'm not big on opera, but my Dad really liked Pavarotti, and I came to like his voice too. Sad day, the world has lost a great voice. R.I.P. Luciano.

Another sad day for music. I know very little about opera, but there can't be many people who haven't heard of Pavarotti. I first heard of him through football - Nessun Dorma was used as the theme music for the world cup in Itay in 1990, and became one of those phenomenal cross-over hits that topped the charts the world over. I think it'd be fair to say that, along with Carreras and Domingo, he brought opera into mainstream popularity.

RIP

A great loss

Here is to you as good as you are
And here is to me as bad as I am
As good as you are and as bad as I am
I'm as good as you are as bad as I am

Great version with Levine conduncting. Nessum dorma was his aria but, perhaps, today I prefer this:

Not an opera fan myself but can appreciate excellence
in many fields.

Pavarotti was synonymous with excellence.

I found this clip just a couple of days ago while searching
for something else and find it very appropriate considering
today's news.
