The stars have lined up three times now in the past 10 days or so. If I can go 8 hours without narcotics, not have a fever, no massive pain and rest very well before and afterwards, I can ride my bike for short distances. I'm fortunate that I had a 3/4 helmet that was very worn and got quite big. Otherwise, no way my head goes into a helmet.
Tonight was perfect. About 75 degrees, the wild onions along side of the road were very fragrant and the honeysuckle was everywhere. Total bliss. My son was on the back and my wife was on hers following me.
Bike's safely back in the garage. It's the little victories in life, eh?
Oh, Wrong Way is my riding club's nickname that they bestowed on me. You earn your nicknames. Something about riding to Fredrick, Maryland and winding up in Philly while leading 17 others. Weird. LOL

Great! :D

Sounds like you've developed a greater appreciation for the simple pleasures in life.
Way to go Wrong Way!
Great news Roy, glad things are starting to turn the right way for you! :)

sure would be nice if you wore a helmet. I feel the same as you, but you have responsibilities. your head should not receive any more denting. so sorry to be acting the parent here. but we need you around.
I must have felt good getting back on the bike!
Funny how you get stuck with nicknames..I remeber one of my friends stuck me with one back in Jr high. It stuck for about 10-15 years then finally wore off.

I did wear a helmet. Had an old one with the padding thinned out from usage that was big enough for my head to get into.

thumbs up
( I cannot get the emoticons to work)
That's awesome, Roy! I had a bike a long time ago (not a Harley, though my dream is to get one someday), and I can remember riding in the evening of some hot days. But when we'd ride past creeks or woods, the aroma and cool air were so refreshing. It's one of those things that words just can't describe. I still drive with my window down on evenings like that just so I can try to recapture that feeling. Man, it brings back some great memories.
I'm glad that you were able to get out, even for a short time. Yeah, it's the small victories for sure.

Excellent news Wrong Way!! Life really is about the little moments. If you spend too much time waiting on the big ones you are wasting time.
I remember getting stuck with Iggy by some bandmates. I actually liked the nick but I didnt know what it mean. So after quite a few months I asked. They said it was because I reminded them of Jim Ignatowski (mispelt) from the TV show Taxi. He's kind of like Cramer from Sienfield if you are too young for Taxi.

I loved the theme song from Taxi!

Ride On! Ride On! Roy - Wrongway. I was Chumley in highschool (named after a character on The Tennessee Tuxedo Carton).
It is a small world for metal fanatics. I welcome you fellow musicians, especially the metalheads!

Thanks everyone! It sure was nice to get back on it. It's like part of my life is back, albeit only when the planets and stars align. :) Nothing like it for me. I fell in love with it back in the '84. Gave it up for 13 years and picked it back up in 2000.
Celt, yup. That's it. Concious decision to do so even before I got sick. I still think of that old chief in Dances With Wolves. "He just smoked his pipe and spoke of simple pleasures", I think the line was.

reading your enthusiasm for biking brings back a memory or two. hopping into my wayback machine it is 1969 . I have my driver's license and a friend with a Triumph Bonneville. I helped him port and polish it. then shortly after a break in period we took it out to the countryside early one morning. we found a straight road and no one around. sitting on the back I peeked over my buddy's shoulder and saw the speedometer hitting 90 mph. soon the telephone poles looked like a picket fence. after slowing he turned and said ' how does 109 feel?' OMG, I loved it.
he rode with a friendly group and I always hopped on for the overnights at state campgrounds. on one ride a guy's Norton took off under him. the throttle jammed and off he went. he had to lay it down. he surfed that bike till it stopped. he did dislocate his collar bone. so he had to ride in the support car for the ride home. my friend got the Norton working and rode that home. I got to ride the Bonneville. OMG.
needless to say I never bought or owned a bike. deep down I was afraid I would go so fast and end up on a slab. I used to be a huge risk taker and was lucky my inner angel had me well under control. maybe someday I will get an old beater Yamaha or Honda and putt putt around the countryside when I end up moving there.
darn you Roy. you have my inner biker all antsy again.
